For the first time since 2019, IUSD held Research Day’s poster presentations in person, with the remainder of the program presented in person and online as a hybrid event. Students presented 93 posters of their research conducted under the mentorship of their faculty.
The 2022 event was IUSD’s 30th commemoration of Research Day, celebrating the search for truth and new knowledge – the heart of our mission to improve oral health for all people.
Dr. Richard Gregory, who served on every planning committee for the past 30 years, shared his remembrances, especially those of Research Day founder Dr. George Stookey, who died earlier this year.
Speakers for this 30th annual Research Day included Dr. Nisha D’Silva, professor at University of Michigan School of Dentistry, who delivered the keynote address on subverting the microenvironment of oral cancer. Dr. Thankam Thyvalikakath, IUSD director of dental informatics, presented on the role of informatics to improve care. And Dr. Tien-Min Gabriel Chu, associate dean for research, gave an update on IUSD’s research program. Dr. Angela Bruzzaniti, director of dental student research, and Dr. Simone Duarte, associate professor and president of IN-AADOCR, presented student research and faculty and staff awards, as well as honors from the IUSD Alumni Association.
